My mum came home with a dozen tins of sweetened condensed milk. Any suggestions of fun tasty things I can do with them, that will stop me from just digging in with a spoon?

Put one tin in a slow cooker or crock pot, cover completely with water, cook on low for 4 hours - best caramel you've ever had.

Bake a chocolate cake, poke holes with a toothpick, and drizzle over with SCM (and caramel as well if you are ready for heaven).

Lightly crush graham crackers, place in the bottom of a bowl, slice bananas on top, cover it all with SCM, refrigerate overnight - delicious "fake" banana pudding. Adding a few drops of lemon juice will also cause the SCM to become thicker and more pudding like.

It's also amazing in iced or regular coffee.

or put the cooked milk on top of the bananas on the graham cracker base - banoffee pie!

wow. when you say "cover with water", how much water exactly? Like.. a centimeter? An inch?

As long as it stays covered the entire time, that's all that matters.

My grandmother uses the stuff to make corn chowder that is amazing.

The sweetened kind? I would love a recipe for this if you have one.

That was my first thought too, though I usually skip the nuts.

Actually, I'm making a sort of peanut butter-caramel-banana pie with the can I have. Crushed graham crackers mixed with melted butter for the crust, sliced bananas layered with the cooked milk and peanut butter, then topped off with whipped cream and stuck in the freezer.

No-Bake Cheesecake

8 oz cream cheese, softened
1 small can condensed milk
1 tsp vanilla
1/3 cup lemon juice
1 9-inch graham cracker crust
fruit pie filling (for topping) or whatever you top cheesecake/pie with!

In medium bowl, beat cheese until light and fluffy.
Add sweetened condensed milk, blend thoroughly. Stir
in lemon juice and vanilla. Pour into pie crust, chill
2 hours. Top with fruit topping.

Get a large piece of texas toast, toast it lightly, drizzle the "angel jism" (as I call it) over it. Or get angel's food cake and do the same.

This is one of my favorite treats to get in china town :)

Put the whole unopened can (remove the label) in a cricket filled with water for eight hours. Bam! Caramel!

lemon pie! three egg yolks, one can SCM, 1/3 cup lemon juice. mix that shit up, pour it in a shell, turn the egg whites into meringue, pop it in the oven for a few minutes to brown the top.

my husband and i can't make it very often because once we remember how EASY it is...we end up making, like, eight in a row.

If you switch out the lemon juice for key lime juice and use a graham cracker crust you have a very authentic key lime pie. I think they're better with whipped cream than meringue, though.

That's almost exactly the recipe I have for key lime pie except my recipe calls for folding the meringue into the lime-milk mixture and then baking for a short while to set the pie. I serve mine with whipped cream.

Add some rum, coconut milk, sugar and cinnamon and you have coquito (aka Puerto Rican eggnog).

This reminds me... I recently tried a recipe for french vanilla coffee creamer that I saw on Pinterest that was 1 can of sweetened condensed milk, the same can filled again with plain milk and a tsp or so of vanilla extract. Put it all in a large jar with a tight fitting lid and shake the hell out of it. It was very good and saved me a trip to the grocery store :)

I've heard it's amazing on pancakes, in place of syrup. Haven't had the chance to try it though.

1 can SCM
1/2 cup chocolate chips (I just kind of dump how ever many I feel like)
1/2 cup butterscotch chips (again with the dumping)
1/2 cup walnuts (I don't add nuts as my DS is allergic)
graham cracker crumbs...I think it's 2-4 cups but I don't remember. Think consistency of peanut butter. You want enough crackers so they aren't super sticky, but not so much that they end up dry.

Put in a pan and bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes.

My mom used to call them Chinese Chews. I have no idea what is "Chinese" about them lol.

There's a really good fruit salad that you could do. Throw random fruit (whatever you like, really) in a bowl, chopped up into bite-sized pieces. Now stay with me on this part: add some sour cream (Mexican style crema is good, it's less sour or sub yogurt, whatever) and shredded mozzarella cheese on top and stir it all together. Garnish with copious amounts of sweetened condensed milk. Mmm, so good.

i could see that with shredded coconut instead of the mozz, that threw me a bit.

but that sounds wonderful, wish i could have it!!

If you get a tin of condensed milk and add in about a teaspoon of mustard powder along with as much vinegar as you want, it makes a DELICIOUS salad dressing. It's really nice on boiled potatoes as well.

Make it into caramel and make millionaires' shortbread. Yum. could also make salted peanut caramel.
